Doctor Who.
Again, do I need to explain? If you follow me on Tumblr you know this. I used to watch Doctor Who as a kid with my dad on PBS, but I didn’t really get into it until the new series came back, and I stepped into fandom for the first time with series 4 because I loved Donna so much. She is my favorite companion for sure (well, in the New Series at least). I’ve transcended into crazed love so far that I’m planning on writing my dissertation on the show. If that’s not an obsession I don’t know what is.

Life on Mars.
Do I really need to explain? Really? I’ve returned to this show quite a few times and every time I can never get over the fact of how gripping the opening episode is. It is an independent story, but really gets you invested in the characters and situation in a way that few other shows can. This isn’t a pilot in the stereotypical sense; in the industry calling the first episode a “pilot” is a way of making an excuse for lower-than-expected production values, shaky acting, and less-than-water-tight introductory narrative. But in this first episode, Life on Mars is already in full stride, and I think that’s why you can’t turn away after watching the first episode. You simply must watch the whole series.

Runner up:

Doctor Who, “The Eleventh Hour”.
While “The Eleventh Hour” isn’t a pilot in the dictionary sense, this is the first run of a new show runner, new Doctor, new companion, new title sequence, new director, new executive producers … Really, this is the pilot episode for Team Cardiff.2, spearheaded by Steven Moffat. And what an introduction. Matt Smith was brilliant. Karen Gillan was gorgeous and sassy. The story was clever and fun. Really, it was a fantastic starting point for a new crew and new direction for Doctor Who. And that’s what’s so brilliant about Doctor Who; it’s the same show, with the same main character, yet can completely reinvent itself while maintaining its sameness.

Don’t get me wrong. I loved having the Master back (and in John Simm’s gorgeous body good lord) but this whole thing was just totally ridiculous. I think this was RTD testing the fanbase’s trust and loyalty. Because seriously. wut. And again with the giant reset button. Sigh.

The Doctor: Do you know like we were sayin’? About the Earth revolving? It’s like when you’re a kid. The first time they tell you that the world’s turning and you just can’t quite believe it ‘cause everything looks like it’s standin’ still. I can feel it. The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinnin’ at 1,000 miles an hour and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, and I can feel it. We’re fallin’ through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go… That’s who I am.

Not only is the TARDIS my favorite ship, but The Doctor & the TARDIS are also my favorite ship. I mean, let’s face it. She’s never left his side. She regenerates herself along with him, to keep up appearances. He’s been inside her. It’s meant to be.

They were made for the shop as samples. We started balling up Ella Rae Classic into mini balls of yarn (about 73 yds) to sell as our own little version of small balls. The yarn just wasn’t selling, as people tend to gravitate towards Cascade 220. So Suzanne asked if Brenda could crochet up something to help sell the yarn and generate more interest in crochet. I took over and made some amis. I think they’re pretty cute!

Now I’m back on a crocheting kick and want to make every ami pattern in my queue. And I may just do that, too. They are so quick and easy to make!

And if you couldn’t tell from the top of the page, I have re-embarked on a Season 12 scarf, this time around following the directions from WLK. It’s going swimmingly, and I have to admit, it’s getting to the point that its difficult to transport comfortably. Which is unfortunate because it has been my go-to bus ride project.

After some descriptions of what was going on, we were treated to some fantastic video hellos from well-known members of the DW family. Shaun was vague about the first one, but I totally nailed it! The conversation went something like this:

Me: I wonder who it is?
Iko: Well it wouldn’t be anyone in the new series … maybe DT?
Me (ignoring what she said, clearly): Matt Smith?
Iko: Naw … RTD?
Me: I bet it’s The Moff!
Iko: He’s way too busy for that …

Then the video came on and it was Teh Moff! What a lovely man!

Absolutely fantastic. And let me say here that I am not ashamed in how TOTALLY F’IN EXCITED I AM FOR MATT SMITH/ELEVEN/TEH MOFF. WOO!

Ahem.

There was also a fantastic video from Peter Davison, with guest appearances that I’m sure you’ve all heard about at this point. I don’t have video for that one, because I didn’t get the chance. Sorry! Look it up on youtube or something. It’s pretty funny!

Afterwards we did a lot of wandering around, hung out and depressurized in our room, then headed out to the Titanic Party. Which was brilliant. The room was decked out with props, toys, accessories, and posters remeniscent of the Xmas special “The Voyage of the Damned.” The hosts/hostesses were dressed in tuxes and maid dresses similar to those in the series, and there was a mock control panel made from an old touch-tablet PC.

After that, Iko and I headed over to the Casino to see what was going on. Iko grabbed some chips and sat down at a blackjack table.
