The lovely Christabel has linked to me in her lovely A Few Honest Scraps list. The idea is:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to that blog post.
2. Tell ten honest things about yourself and make them interesting, even if you have to dig deep!
3. Pass the award on to ten bloggers you feel embody the spirit of Honest Scrap, and whose blog you find brilliant in design and/or concept.

Now I’m not very interesting, but I can probably cook up 10 stupid things about myself.

1. I am known around the music department as the resident knitter.
2. I am also known around the music department as the resident super-nerd.
3. I have the sweetest brother ever.

Exhibit A

4. I have worked at Hill Country Weavers for six months now. I almost know where everything is now, and how QuickBooks 2009 works. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you’ve ever been to HCW you’d understand what an undertaking it is to know where everything is in that place. Biggest. Yarn shop. Ever.
5. I’m secretly a very vain person. I obsess over having shiny, straight hair, smelling nice, and looking somewhat put-together. Granted my version of put-together is very different from other people, but I do spend a embarrassingly large amount of time putting myself together in the morning.
6. I’m pretty much Liz Lemon, but 10 or so years younger. I’m even starting to dress like her (I realized this today). I’m totally okay with that because I finally, after 25 years, really like myself. *pats self on back*
7. I hate money but I love spending it. I live with two girls that are very simple and easy going, which makes me self-conscious of my love of tech stuff, gadgets, DVDs, and nerdy toys. But hey. I’m me. I work hard to get the stuff I want. “Maybe you can’t understand this, but I’ve finally found what I need to be happy and it’s not friends, it’s things.”
8. Speaking of which, I make it a personal goal to slip in a Futurama quotation into a normal conversation once every day.
9. I have two tattoos with two on the way. One is Chicago related, one is just pretty.
10. As of January 18th, I’ve been vegan for 8 years. I’ve loved every day of it and never regretted it for a second. It’s made me see the world in a new way and I think it’s been a positive thing for myself and the people around me.

So like I said. 10 stupid things about me. May or may not be interesting, though.

Now let’s see if I can think of ten lovely bloggers out there …
andy
christina
amber
eileene
cara
meghan
betsy

Wow, it’s been a while. I’ll just blame school for that and move right along.

First things first, I finally launched my Zoe Pattern! Take a look at it following the link to the right, or look me up on Ravelry! It’s a lovely little free pattern and a great way to use up your stashed sock yarn. That’s pretty much why I made it!

I have two more patterns in the works. The first is a super chunky cowl knit up on super bulky yarn that only takes about an hour to make. The second is a hat pattern that will be available in the pattern packet for the Hill Country Yarn Crawl. More on those in the not-too-distant future.

When I’m not reading for school, teaching, writing papers, or doing other homework I generally knit. But lately I’ve been reading a lot. It all goes back to my re-obsession with The Beatles that started back in July. I recently picked up Philip Norman’s Shout! The Beatles in Their Generation and have been totally devouring it. And I think it has rekindled my passion for reading, or maybe actually helped me have one. I generally hate reading. I think grad school ruined reading for me. But I really want to get back into reading, so I’ve made myself a To Be Read list.

to be read

It’s not quite as ambitious as M—–l’s (or anyone else that has made up a list of TBRs, to be honest), but this list does not factor in the 500+ pages I read every week for my graduate coursework. These are things I want to read For Me. Because I Want To. Not because I Have To. If you can’t tell I’m not a fiction book person. I stick pretty much only with non-fiction books. I’m hoping I can read all of these before the end of October. I think I can do it.

I’ve found some crochet patterns that have inspired me lately. I also just ordered a few new knitting and crochet books from KnitPicks that have fun patterns in them. (Gotta love 40% off book sales.) M—–l, there may be some crocheted weird creature things coming your way in the near future. You have been warned.

Until next time,

I feel this strange urge to update this thing. The semester is finally over and grades are trickling in (A- and A so far, one more to go that’ll probably be a B). Lots of rehearsals this week, as the choir I’m in is singing at Commencement on Saturday. I had no idea that many songs about Texas existed.

Anyway.

I’ve been slowly trucking along on some of the knitting I have going. I went to LA a few weekends ago (in the midst of finals, because I’m smart like that) and took my mom’s Lace Ribbon Scarf with me. The color is turning out to be a bit boring, which is bumming me out. But I wanted something that could go with lots of different outfits/colors, so I went with a neutral silver/greyish color. If I can get my pictures to work I’ll share a few. You can always look at my flickr stuff too.

And just to keep the music vid thing going, here is one of my all-time favorite music moments from Scrubs. Grab some tissues.

Nos da, cariads.

Anyway, today we had a few hours to chill before meeting up for rehearsal, so I walked around downtown Oklahoma City and took some pictures.
