Doctor Who on Netflix

If you don’t have Netflix you can get a free trial very, very easily. And I guarantee you’ll be hooked. It’s the way of the future, man.

I very highly recommend watching through a PS3, Roku box, or Xbox360. The video quality is the best you can get, and watching it on your tv is really the best.

Now that we’re on summer break until the show returns in the fall, you’ve got plenty of time to catch up. Get to it!

I know it’s pretty easy to download episodes through torrent sites, but if you watch through Netflix it shows interest in the US! Something the BBC is starting to take very, very seriously. After all, they’ve been considering releasing an international iPlayer. Fancy.

1. MOFF TIEM

The Grand Moff

Even though I enjoyed watching the episodes and specials from series 1-4, and always looked forward to new episodes, series 5 and 6 are … different. I mean not only am I excited, but I feel like I have no idea what’s coming. I’m excited for series 6 but for a different reason. I feel safe being excited because I know I won’t be disappointed. The acting is top-notch, the story-telling is inspiring, and based on everything Moffat has done I know that I won’t get to the end of the series with a sour taste in my mouth. This brings me so much joy.

One of the things I love the most about Moffat being in charge is that he is truly a Writer’s Show Runner. Each story feels unique, has its own mood, its own pace, and the mark of its writer. Moffat lets the writer of each episode really put their mark on it. RTD, as we known from our own viewing experience as well as his own accounts, edited/rewrote/rerewrote nearly every episode that aired under his purview. Moff lets the writers do their thing. And in this way the new series now seems just a bit closer in style and character to the classic. Each classic series story was totally unique, to the point of being blamed for inconsistency. And I think RTD fans argue the same thing. But Moff’s show running has combined the individuality of story with the narrative arc. It really is just … perfect. And refreshing. And wonderful.

2. Neil. Gaiman.

We now live in a world where someone like Neil Gaiman would not only agree to write for Doctor Who but would actually be really excited to do so. Ummmm. In case y’all didn’t know, this is an excellent time to be a Doctor Who fan. Just think about it.

3. Who is River Song?

Here are some answers that would disappoint me:
1- River Song is Amy Pond.
2- River Song is the Master.
3- River Song is the Doctor’s wife/daughter/mother/whatever.
4- River Song is Jack Harkness, or Jack’s wife/daughter/mother/whatever.
5- River Song is Jenny.

This is one of those things where I’d rather not know the answer. Some things are just better left to the imagination. I would like to know, however, who she has killed. But In Moff We Trust, so hopefully he gives us something extra awesome.

4. What the hell are The Silence?

No really, though, what? We’re being led to believe that it may be these things:

A thing in a tie

Or maybe it’s in there?

The Silence in the SpaceSuit?

Or maybe that spacesuit thing is something even cooler, like a callback to Ambassadors of Death? I feel like with SO much promo stuff being thrown at us that the majority of what we’re seeing contains either red herrings or is something totally not what we’re expecting. We are talking about The Moff after all.

5. More Rory!

Mr. Pond

Rory is about the closest thing we’ve had to a relateable male companion since Jamie. (Yes yes Harry Sullivan but he wasn’t around long and unfortunately wasn’t given much to do.) Here we finally have a chance to have a break-out male character aside from the Doctor. And having a team in the TARDIS is just … so wonderful.
